WeightPolygonGroups is LightWave Modeler interactive tool for applying weight map. It replaces a couple built-in tools and slow LScripts. Because it's real compiled executable, it's hundred times faster than equivalent scripts (especially when there is many connected polygon groups).

WeightPolygonGroups key features:

  • Replacing Set Map Value functionality for weight maps, by fully interactive WYSIWYG tool. You're working in this mode as long as all options are 0, Mode is set to Replace. Start value is applied to the all points without local changes.
  • Add Map/Subtract Map - start value is added to or subtracted from existing weight map. f.e. you have fully ready weight map with some nice carefully made blends, but find out that range is wrong from -1.0 to 0.0, but you want them to be in 0.0 to 1.0. You can fix it by using our tool in Mode Add, Start value 1.0, without loosing weight map details.
  • Set different weight for each connected polygon group. You're working in this mode, when Step is different than 0.0. First polygon group is receiving Start value, second group is receiving Start+Step, third Start+Step*2, and so on. Step can be negative. You can control order of groups by selecting one polygon in each group, with shift hold.
  • Randomize connected polygon groups weight map. You're working in this mode by setting Variation Minimum/Maximum. Each connected polygon group will have weight between these two values.
  • Randomize point weight map. You're working in this mode by setting Group Variation Minimum/Maximum. Each point will have weight between these two values. In gallery there is example with -1.0 to 1.0 range.
  • Mixture of all above modes. f.e. you have 3 spheres and want that 1st sphere have weight -1.0, second have 0.0, third have 1.0. So, Start will be -1.0 and Step 1.0. But you don't want straight values, but slighty randomized in little range. So you should set Group Variation Minimum to f.e. -0.1, and Maximum to +0.1. This way 1st sphere will have weights between -1.1 to -0.9, 2nd will have between -0.1 to 0.1, 3rd sphere between 0.9 to 1.1.

On the left image you can see the plugin control panel.

If you don't see this after running the plugin you should press the 'n' key to open the Numeric options window.

Weight enter name of new weight map to make, or pick up one of existing weight maps in drop-down menu.

Mode can be Replace, Add, or Subtract.

Start initial value of 1st connected polygon group, all other groups are relative to this value.

Step initial value will be incremented by this value, for each connected polygon group.

Variation Minimum/Maximum connected polygon group weight variation added to final value.

Group Variation Minimum/Maximum each point local weight variation added to final value.

Equation used by tool:

group_weight = start + step * connected_polygon_group_index + randomize_value_betweenvariation_minimumvariation_maximum ).

point_weight = group_weight + randomize_value_betweengroup_variation_minimumgroup_variation_maximum ).

Installing the product

In order to install the program, please extract the archive to some location on your hard disk.

On Windows ®, the archive is in the ZIP format. You will need 3rd party software such as WinZIP, which you can download from http://www.winzip.com (it's not included in the package), or other compatible software to decompress the archive.

Windows XP ® has built-in ZIP support (simply right click on the archives icon, and choose Extract all files...).

On Macintosh ®, the archive is in the SIT format. You will need 3rd party software such as StuffIt, which you can download from http://www.stuffit.com (it's not included in the package), or compatible software to decompress the archive.

The LightWave ® plugin does not require files to be in specific locations, which is a very nice feature. But for easier file management it is recommended that the plugin files (i.e. those with .p extension) be copied to your LightWave ® plugins folder (f.e. LightWave\Plugins\).
